A symbol that signifies the revival of the Olympic flame, inspired by Demetrios Vikelas and the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. In Veria, the birthplace of Vikelas, an international conference took place in 2002 in his honor, two years before the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. The Olympic rings are reshaped into an altar, representing the continuity of the sacred flame, lit anew at every celebration of the Games. This second symbol brings together the dates 1896 and 2002, linking past and present, and highlighting Vikelas’ legacy within the future of Olympism.
